Information Donors Should Know Before Giving

Costs of Fundraising

  • We are committed to using less than 10% of our funds for fundraising, and our goal is to use less than 5%

  • We will try to use electronic forms of communication whenever possible to keep costs down.

  • Credit Card companies charge roughly a 3% charge for processing credit card donations.  This is taken into account of our 5-10% cost of fund raising commitment.

Taxes:

  • All donations are tax deductible (Even if given in someone else’s name)
  • Email confirmation of a donation is acceptable documentation for tax purposes

How Your Money Is Spent

  • 75% of all funds raised through fundraising will be used for programs and development
  • 25% of funds will go to reserves and to build an endowment to help ensure long-term financial stability
  • For a more detailed view our spending, check out our 3-Year Plan, our Latest Audit, and our past Tax Forms

Privacy & Communications

  • We respect your privacy, and will not sell or give away your information to anyone.

  • You will receive four Quarterly newsletters to keep you informed of the programs progress.

  • Other than the quarterly newsletter, you will receive no other unsolicited communications from us for 10 months following the date you donate.

  • After 10 months you will receive up to 3 requests to renew your support.

  • If you would like to be removed from our mailings, please email Fundraising@nbweb.org or call 978-970-5692 with your request, and you will be removed immediately.

Non-Profit Status & Explanation of Financials

  • There are two major types of 501c(3) Non-Profits:  Public Charities & Private Foundations.

  • In 1999 Advancement Plus had to change its IRS Non-profit status from a Non-Profit Public Charity to a Non-Profit Private Foundation, b/c in the past we  received the majority of its funds through a few large donors. This means Advancement Plus has two pay a 2% tax on the interest it earns on its accounts.  (Please note that this is only on interest income, not on donations. ALL donations are tax deductible.)
  • Guidestar, which reports financial information on Non-Profits for donation websites such as JustGive.org, does not currently have the capability to support the 990 tax form and financials filed by a Private Foundation, as a result the most recent financial information these sites have are from 1999 when Advancement Plus listed as a Public Charity
  • For the most up to date financial information go to the Financials page of the Donor Section of this website for our latest Audit and 990 PF tax forms.
  • For fundraising purposes, we are registered with the Division of Public Charities with the Massachusetts Attorney Generals office.  They can be reached at 617-727-2200.
